Amount of Waste Per Year

"The average person generates 4.3 pounds of waste per day. This is 1.6 pounds more than most produced back in 1960." (Duke Center for Sustainability and Commerce)

But how much do I really produce in way per year?

After keeping up with how much waste I get rid of per day, I calculated that I use on average about 6 pages of paper per day, I drink out of one plastic bottle with a paper label. On average, I am atleast getting rid of one glass bottle per day, and my random plastic pieces average to about 12 plastic candy wrappers.

Plastic Glass Paper
2,190 Sheets of Paper 365 Glass containers 365 Plastic Bottles
365 Bottle Labels

4,380 Small Pieces

"Approximately 55% of 220 million tons of waste generated each year in the United States ends up in one of the over 3,500 landfills. Municipal solid waste landfills are the second-largest source of human-related methane emissions in the United States, accounting for approximately 22 percent of those emissions in 2008" (EPA, 2011).

After completing my own research, I realized that I can make a difference when it comes to "saving" our environment. One important thing that I realize that I can do is use cloth bags when I go to the grocery store to save from using the plastic ones.
